Everyone is warmly invited to join for this annual devotional and celebratory event that also serves as an important fundraiser to further the mission of Song of the Morning!

For decades the Golden Lotus Banquets have been hosted in the Detroit area since Yogacharya Oliver Black originally began leading meditations and Sunday Services at the Detroit Institute of Arts in the 1960s and through the 1980s until his passing in 1989. This year, the GLYTA teachers are hosting the banquet in the Sitzmark Room at the Otsego Club in Gaylord, MI.  The banquet will feature meditation and kirtan, a delicious dinner, and a variety of uplifting and informative presentations.

Those who plan to attend the banquet are also invited to stay for the weekend at Song of the Morning for our annual Yogananda Retreat: “Maximize Your Body’s Health Through Yoga”.

Paramahansa Yogananda said, “There are three kinds of sickness: physical, mental, and spiritual. Physical sickness is due to different forms of toxic conditions, infectious diseases, and accidents. Mental sickness is caused by fear, worry, anger, and similar emotional inharmonies. Soul sickness is due to man’s ignorance of his true relationship with God. Ignorance is the supreme disease. When one banishes ignorance, he has also banished the causes of all physical, mental, and spiritual disease.”

The Yogananda Retreat includes attendance to the GLYTA Banquet. In addition, we will explore ways to optimize your health through gentle yoga postures, Yogananda’s 5 Steps of Meditation for calming the nerves, and yoga for the respiratory system presented by the Golden Lotus Yoga Teachers Association. We will also be going on a walk along our Pigeon River “Ganges” to the Lahiri Shrine on our own “Himalayas ” using stories from the Autobiography of a Yogi. There will be silent walking, a short meditation and readings from the Autobiography at the shrine, and chanting on the walk back.
